Elon Musck, founder and owner of Space X, was reveal how make a colony on Mars.

First is going to send to mars a team of robots to prepare the provisional house. These robots will do a cave to extract mineral to make power. Into this gaps can live the first residents in Mars.  Then every year they double the ships that will make the trip, making in a few years a self-sufficient colony on Mars.

But we will have to wait, because first we have to send humans to the Mars surface.
